VACANCY ANNOUNCEMENT  

The United States Peace Corps is a US government agency in North Macedonia and seeks qualified and motivated candidates for a temporary full-time position as:

                                                             Language and Cultural Facilitator for Macedonian Language

Under the direction of the Language Coordinator, the Language and Cultural Facilitator for Macedonian language will be responsible for teaching Macedonian language and culture to a group of Americans. Successful candidates will be required to take part in a mandatory paid training in Skopje, during which they will be taught how to teach the Macedonian language to foreigners using Peace Corps language materials. After successful completion of the training, facilitators will be expected to teach the curriculum to Peace Corps trainees during an 11 week Pre-Service Training at a Peace Corps Regional Training Facility. Previous teaching experience is preferred, but not required.

 Employment Dates:

Successful candidates will be hired for the period of August through December 2024. Employment will take place in two locations:

·         August – September – Paid month-long training/preparation period in Skopje (housing is NOT provided).

·         September – December – Teaching assignment at a regional training community (paid housing is provided).

 Salary: Daily rate of 5,002 MKD (gross)

 Peace Corps Provides:

·         Paid professional language teaching training course in Skopje.

·         Opportunity to live and work alongside Americans at a Peace Corps regional training community.

·         Paid housing at the regional training community during the 11-week teaching assignment.

·         Potential future opportunity to provide individual language tutoring to Peace Corps Volunteers throughout the year and/or during future trainings.

·         Opportunity to gain valuable work experience with a US government agency/ international organization.

·         Opportunity to work in a multicultural team and build intercultural competence.

 Minimum Requirements:

·         University degree or status of a Senior student (4th year at the University) preferably in linguistics, foreign languages, or humanities.

Fluency in written and spoken Macedonian and English. Willingness to live and work in a community outside Skopje.

·         Demonstrated ability to work in a team setting.

No criminal record and ability to pass a background check conducted by the US Embassy.

 Desired Qualifications:

·         Teaching or facilitating experience.

·         Experience working with foreigners or living abroad.

 Clearly state in the body of the email if you are a relative of a current Peace Corps staff member and include their name. Being a relative does not make an applicant ineligible for the position. A relative is defined as “husband, wife, domestic partner, member of household, father, father-in-law, stepfather, mother, mother-in-law, stepmother, son, son-in-law, stepson, daughter, daughter-in-law, stepdaughter, brother, brother-in-law, half-brother, sister, sister-in-law, half-sister, uncle, aunt, first cousin, nephew, or niece.” Otherwise, state “I am not related to a current Peace Corps staff member” in the body of the email.

Clearly state in the body of the email if you have ever served Peace Corps as a Trainee or Volunteer (including Response), or as a staff member (USDH, PSC, or FSN), and if so, identify the position location, position type, job title, and starting and ending dates. Otherwise, state “I have no experience in Peace Corps” in the body of the email.

Peace Corps reserves the right to not evaluate or to withhold an offer of a personal services contract to an individual that has a history of poor past performance or conduct as a Peace Corps Trainee, Volunteer, or staff member (USDH, PSC, or FSN). Individuals who have current or prior connections with intelligence activities or agencies through employment, related work, or even family relations may be ineligible for a personal services contract. The selected individual will be required to follow any workplace health and/or safety rules indicated for their position – including complying with any medical and/or training requirements specified for their position in accordance with public health and/or occupational health or safety policies. The individual may be asked to complete one or more temporary duty assignments at other Peace Corps posts, transfer to another Peace Corps post, or to complete a detail with another USG Agency, a Peace Corps Headquarters office, or with a post other than the post of assignment.  As part of an approved detail, the individual may be requested to perform work that may be specifically in line with or may add to the duties stated in the contract. Preference will be given to candidates who are citizens or permanent residents of the host country or region.
